Your Presenter
Dr Pedro Ferreira
Pedro Mendes Ferreira, PhD is a Biologist working in the field of cardiovascular sciences for 15 years. Most of his training and research career have focused on small and large animal physiological measurements, including ventricular pressure-volume loop analysis.
The Cardiovascular Research Center (UnIC) of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, is focused on translational research in the cardiovascular field. The infrastructures are equipped with both small and large animal labs where the work is mainly focused on heart failure (HF) and pulmonary hypertension (PH). Currently, Pedro is the manager of the experimental surgery facility, where over the last 5 years, they’ve focused on the development and application of several swine models of HF (including ischemia reperfusion injury and aortic banding) and PH (chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary artery banding), and where they routinely perform ventricular pressure-volume loop analysis for either left, right, or biventricular function evaluation.
