General Info
     General Information

The MLS395/6 Circadian Analysis Module for LabChart for Windows analyzes data with a daily pattern, and generates graphical and tabular views of the daily and averaged circadian data. Each day’s recording is split into a user-determined number of intervals. The data within each interval is averaged, and these results are plotted, displayed numerically, and analyzed to reveal parameters including the minimum, maximum and mean value for each day as well as the average day.

The Circadian Analysis Module should be used with the latest version of LabChart. Click here for the latest LabChart for Windows update.

Example Applications

The Circadian Analysis Module analyzes data with a daily pattern, including recordings made as part of hormonal studies, sleep studies and long-term studies of physiological variables.

Seamless Analysis of Telemetry Recordings

The Circadian Analysis Module is also ideal for analyzing data recorded using Telemetry Research wireless animal monitoring equipment with PowerLab systems. Using the ML319 TR Scheduler Pod hardware and TR Scheduler Extension software you can schedule a single Telemetry Research receiver to switch between up to 12 different transmitters. The Circadian Analysis Module will automatically recognize and analyze any combination of continuous and periodic data recorded using the equipment.

Features and Benefits

  • Analyzes day-by-day LabChart data over multiple channels
  • Analyzes continuous, intermittent or calculated data
  • Customizable circadian period start time and length and optional data exclusion filter
  • Exports derived numerical parameters as a tab-delimited file
  • Copies analysis results in text and image formats

Circadian Analysis Settings

The Circadian Analysis Setup Dialog allows the user to:

  • Select the channels to be included in the analysis
  • Choose to analyze the whole channel or a selection
  • Adjust time settings including the circadian period (day length), day start time, and averaging interval
  • Enable and configure the data exclusion filter
  • Adjust the light on/off shading feature in the Averaging View

Table View

The Circadian Analysis Table View automatically calculates and displays the following parameters for each day, as well as determining an average day:

  • maximum
  • minimum
  • maximum-minimum
  • time at maximum
  • time at minimum
  • mean

The user can tab through the results for each data channel being analysed. The user can export the table as a tab delimited file into other programs (such as Microsoft Excel) and copy it to the clipboard as text.

Averaging View

The Circadian Analysis Averaging View displays and plots the averaging interval data for single or multiple channels. The Averaging View incorporates user-determined Lights on/off shading, making it easy to see the effect day and night have on the data. Users can select to:

  • view the automatically calculated average day
  • show all days as an overlay on top of the average day
  • select a specific day from the highlight drop-down list or by clicking on its trace, and view the values for any specific point in time by hovering over the trace
  • view each channel’s data separately, or show multiple channels in the same view using the buttons along the top of the view

The averaging view can be copied into LabChart’s Data Pad or into other applications. The plot image as well as text showing the values of all data points is copied.
