Simultaneous Telemetry SNA and BP Recording Opens New Doors for Research
The Molecular Neurobiology Laboratory at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia, is one of the first research groups worldwide to take advantage of Telemetry Research’s new wireless technology for measuring blood pressure in small and large animals.
Sympathoexcitation in Polycystic Kidney Disease
One of the Lab’s central research concerns is the nervous control of blood pressure. Led by Dr Jacqueline Phillips, the group are exploring the hypothesis that in diseases such as polycystic kidney disease, increased sympathetic nerve activity to the kidney, may be a key factor in increasing blood pressure.
Above: LabChart recording of data recorded from a rat using a Telemetry Research transmitter and receiver. The top channel displays the raw SNA signal, whilst the second channel shows the integrated SNA signal calculated by LabChart. The bottom channel displays the correct BP signal.
With the development of the
MLE1022 Transmitter
and
MLE1162 Receiver
, they are now able to simultaneously record SNA and blood pressure in a new Lewis rat model of polycystic kidney disease over extended periods of time. The data is acquired by a PowerLab and displayed in LabChart, where the researchers are able to use built-in calculation and analysis tools to immediately display integrated signals and channel calculations.
According to researcher Dr Joanne Harrison, “the use of telemetry is opening new doors for our research.”
